Special remarks-

Besides the accreditation of hospitals, the Taiwan Joint Commission on Hospital Accreditation (TJCHA) has the mission to establish a partnership to improve the quality in hospitals. The TJCHA is a collaboration between the Department of Health, the Taiwan Medical Association, Taiwan Hospital Association and the Taiwan non-governmental Hospitals and Clinics Association. The TJCHA is also compulsory in order to work with the Taiwan national healthcare insurance. Without this accreditation, insurance companies will not pay for the treatment conducted in the hospital. The focus of this accreditation system is on the patients, as seen in the model below. All the decisions made by the hospital must have a positive effect for the patient. The TJCHA is an accreditation system with a clear mission and vision.
