The Malaysian society for quality in healthcare (MSQH) is one of the few public accreditation systems that work on a voluntary basis. Besides accreditation, the MSQH also organises conferences and workshops to improve the quality of the national healthcare. The following flowchart on the next page shows the accreditation process which is a collaboration between a hospital and the MSQH.

Special remarks-

At first the accreditation is given for only one year. If the standards are maintained during that year at the required quality level, the accreditation certificate can be extended for a maximum of three years. After three years, the whole accreditation process has to be renewed. During the accreditation process, the hospital is also obligated to give awareness training programs to improve the overall quality. Although the MSQH operates totally independent from the Malaysian government, it is still owned by the government. However, the Malaysian government is not allowed to influence the accreditation process.
