The “Mom Job”

Marina Plastic Surgery Associates, of Marina del Rey, California, is promoting what they call the “mommy makeover” (www.amommymakeover.com). It is a package of a breast lift with or without breast implants, a tummy tuck, and some liposuction to revise the typical ravages of motherhood. Although feminists don’t like the notion that motherhood results in unattractive physical changes, the fact is that the new generation of American women is not so tolerant of the natural changes in the aging body. According to a 2007 article in the New York Times, doctors nationwide performed more than 325,000 “mommy makeover procedures” in the past year on women ages 20 to 39. These women may not have known that they could get the same procedure overseas at a far lower cost.
