Joint Commission International (JCI) is the biggest and most well-known hospital accreditation provider on the international market. JCI started its accreditation in 1994 and is the international equivalent of the USA based Joint Commission. At the moment, JCI has conducted accreditations in over 39 countries and 300 healthcare organisations and works together with local governments but also with the World Health Organisation to improve the international quality standards of hospitals. As stated on the website, “the mission of JCI is to continuously improve the safety and quality of care in the international community through the provision of education and consultation services and international accreditation and certification”41. Turkey has the most JCI accredited hospitals.

JCI is the biggest and most well known hospital accreditation. Although their lack of transparency is somewhat annoying when entering the medical tourism market, hospitals are strongly recommended to undergo a JCI accreditation.
